So I am taking enameling class, if you don't know. It's my first completed project (I have a brooch in the works also), and I wanted to go big and do a lot of colors. For the design, I did the champleve enameling method because it gives you most freedom in what you want to design, which is heaven for a beginner like me. For colors, I decided on the rainbow because what's more color than a rainbow? But the challenge was to find a way to make it pop yet keep it from being too childish, so I did some basic color theory and split the colors with their complementary buddy for some effort to tie them together and make it a little sophisticated. Don't know if that worked, LOL. The wet enameling was a pain but it came out so well. But all the scratches from the buffing show but it gives it a lil' charm, hopefully.
I tried to use a mini photo shoot for it but I don't know if it's really best for it but I do like the darkness in the folds of the cloth for an adult look. I have a natural light version (and a another photo shoot version: [link]
I liked that gorgeous blue ribbons that serves to be a temporary chain seemed to enhance the colors and tie it all together. So tempted to use it as an actual part of the necklace.
Done in copper, enameling powder, etchant and ribbon (temporarily). Taken on the IPhone 4S and edited on Photoshop CS2.
I have to say for your first work it's beautiful. I remember my first enamel project, it very basic and simple. It was in H.S. on penny's and very boring. Sometimes basic is better as was this. Great job. Practice, it's a fun medium and not a lot of people do it. Learn your color wheel, and try more colors. You might want to try a brushed finish on your copper and then seal it. Over all very nice.Keep it up. Try some other metals and textures on them. Also your Bail can be a big part of your work, don'r forget to try different things with different kinds and ways of connecting them mechanically.
Lovely piece! Perhaps not the most imaginative in terms of shape, but the cutting and enameling work looks first rate at least in this picture. Not only are the colours absolutely gorgeous and full of fire, the choice of copper as opposed to say, silver, complements them perfectly. Based on what little work I've done with enamels myself, they can be quite unpredictable, so I commend you in particular for the colours and the even finish.
This whole piece reminds me of the illustrations from old Russian fairytales, which I happen to be very partial to. Google Ivan Bilibin if curious. Again, great stuff!
